MARS HARPER 2016 (G) SULAMANI X KIZZY MAY
Pioneer Racing are thrilled to have purchased the ultra impressive debut Irish bumper winner Mars Harper. He is certainly a horse full of promise, showing his abundance of ability here in this video, sprinting clear at his leisure to a bloodless 7 and half lengths last to first victory under a hands and heels ride making light work of some very well regarded and heavily supported horses on the day. This was one of, if not the most impressive bumper winners seen so far this season. He was bought on the condition he remains in the care of leading trainer Gordon Elliott who was adamant the horse was not to leave his yard and personally we can’t think of a better match for this horse. The only difference to the horses winning regime is now he will compete in the black and mauve silks of Pioneer Racing.
The sire of Mars Harper is the Group 1 winning Sulamani who has an exceptional record with his jumps progeny which includes The Aintree Grand National winner Rule the world and the unbeaten Cheltenham winning Supermare Honeysuckle to name but a few. The dam Kizzy May is by the successful national hunt stallion Definite Article who himself has sired plenty of winners including the likes of Definetly Red, Sizing Platinum and Pingshou. Kizzy May herself is a half sister to the 143 rated black type performer Strongpoint and also to the 5 time winner Running in Heels. The family also includes smart middle distance black type performers Project Manager and Ceirseach. Definite Article as a broodmare sire has proved to be a huge success with his national hunt horses and boasts a list which includes graded winners such as Great Field, Champ, Peregrine Run and Gold Present.
Gordon has told us he expects this horse to improve a lot from his debut run which was also his first time ever performing on grass and the plan for Mars Harper in the immediate future is to run in a winners bumper at the Listowel festival, one of the highlights of the Autumn Irish Racing Calendar in which he believes he will take a lot of beating and then after will be aimed at some of the leading bumpers at the spring festivals. He is a horse that has plenty of size and scope and great movement meaning he will be one that will excel even further once sent over hurdles and fences, the sky really is the limit for this stunning gelding as it stands
