The team at Pioneer are delighted to have secured another exciting recruit in the form of the mutiple winning Shantou Gelding ‘Punitive’ from the recent Goffs UK sale who formed part of the annual Gigginstown dispersal. With the Winter months soon looming we were keen to add to the team and wanted to bring on board a proven Winter ground operator who could run at the big meetings through out the winter season, and Punitive certainly fits the bill. Gordon and Mouse know the Gigginstown House Stud horses very well as they have an excellent relationship with Gigginstown and this was a horse that came highly recommended as a horse with still alot of untapped potential, they inspected himnat the sales and thought it made a lot of sense to purchase him especially as he has lots of options open to him in the future especially over fences where he is still a maiden. Punitive has established himself as a horse more than capable of running well on Winter terrain with his 3 wins all having soft or heavy in the ground description and picking up those victories at notoriously testing tracks in Navan and Limerick.

Punitive’s sire is Shantou who was a brilliant stallion and Gordon has done very well with plenty of his progeny which include 2 of Shantous best progeny in Grade 1 winners The Storyteller and Death Duty. We believe Punitive offers fantastic value to those looking at getting involved in a horse to run during the Winter as he is a horse that is rated to run in those big value handicap races at the top meetings and tracks and who is also very unexposed over staying trips which his pedigree suggests he should handle at ease.

The view is the change of scenery and the world class facilities that Gordon has at his disposal give us every reason to believe Gordon can get improvement from Puntitive and get us his owners into the winners enclosure. Gordon has done this with multiple horses in the past comi g from the Gigginstown dispersals with several going on to bag €100k handicap races on their way. Punitive is currently settling in to his new surroundings after arriving at Gordon’s from the sales and is already slotting into Gordon’s system in preparation for a Winter campaign.

Gordon – ‘He is a staying type of horse that I love training and have done well with in the past. We know on his form that he seems to relish the soft ground and is a proper Winter type horse. I’d say we will look to run him in those big handicap races during the Winter months and there should be plenty of fun to be had with him, he is another nice addition for Pioneer Racing who are a big supporter of mine’.

Mouse – ‘He is a nice horse to look at which you would expect considering he was a expensive store horse (€88,000 as a 3 year old). He was one that was on our list to buy and when the lads (Pioneer Racing Management) said that they wanted another horse to add to the team and that would go on Winter ground he fitted the description and I’m sure will give those involved some nice days out, What I would say he is alot of horse for the price we paid’.
